From National Parks to State Parks and more, there’s a variety of incredible landscapes to explore and experiences to uncover within them across the USA.

In the run up to the 100th anniversary of the National Park Service (NPS) in the USA, this badge explores the numerous National Parks and how the establishment of the NPS in 1916 marked a defining moment in history.

Today, almost all of the parks offer the NPS Junior Ranger Program – an activity based programme that offers young visitors the opportunity to join the National Park Service ‘family’ as Junior Rangers. Those interested complete a series of activities during a park visit, share their answers with a park ranger, and receive an official Junior Ranger patch and Junior Ranger certificate. Junior Rangers are typically between the ages of 5 to 13, although people of all ages can participate and recite the motto: “Explore, Learn and Protect”!

You may have come across some of the National Parks content before in the Great Outdoors badge; if not – make sure you’ve earned that one too!
