British Airways is one of the world’s most prestigious and trusted airlines, offering excellent service, a wide range of products and an extensive international network that continues to grow apace. Early in 2019 for example, we will add two more routes to the US with the first-ever transatlantic service to Charleston and direct flights to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania’s coolest city.
British Airways is also a founding member of oneworld®, the alliance of airlines around the globe which together serves some 1,000 destinations. Our loyalty programme, the British Airways’ Executive Club, is designed to recognise and reward frequent flyers, so every time they travel with us or one of our many partners, they can collect Avios points.
The airline is also investing £4.5bn in aircraft over the next few years to improve the experience of every one of the 123,000 customers who fly with us each day. The 18 new aircraft which arrived in 2018 will be added to in 2019 by a further 14 aircraft, to include the brand new Airbus A350.
We are also fully refurbishing all the cabins in 128 of our current long haul aircraft so they will look and feel like new. Enhancements include power points at every seat and the best Wi-Fi in the sky.
British Airways’ Club World cabin is undergoing a considerable investment of £600m too, with enthusiastic responses to the restaurant-style dining experience introduced by our new caterers, Do&Co. This includes new menus featuring seasonal ingredients, beautiful new table settings, elegant crockery and glassware and display trolleys that allow customers to see dishes before making their selections.
Customers are also enjoying luxurious new bedding and amenity kits from sleep experts, The White Company and can look forward to a new, even comfier Club World seat with direct access to the aisle from 2019.
Economy customers travelling long haul will be able to enjoy an upgraded meal service with better snacks and two full meals on every flight.
On the ground, the airline’s business class lounges are currently being refurbished across the globe, with exciting, contemporary spaces already welcoming customers at New York JFK, Rome and Aberdeen.
The year ahead is a big one for us as we celebrate 100 years as a commercial airline - taking Britain to the world and the world to Britain since 1919. We will of course be celebrating our centenary in 2019 and look forward to sharing our plans for this with you soon.
- The Club World sleep experience is also being upgraded as part of British Airways’ business class investment. New bedding from The White Company is already bringing customers an even better sleep on routes between London Heathrow and New York JFK. The bedding includes elegant new cushions, soft pillows and woven blankets, luxurious duvets and padded mattress toppers.
- In addition, Club World customers will be given a complimentary amenity kit containing products from The White Company’s Restore & Relax Spa collection as well as a super-soft jersey eye-mask. The new bedding and amenity kits will be rolled out gradually across other Club World cabins in 2019.
- The Club World investment will continue across 2019, when British Airways will introduce brand new Club World seats, all with direct aisle access. In line with the business class investment, thousands of customer-facing colleagues will be trained to provide the exclusive premium service.
- Best WiFi in the sky – nearly 50 aircraft now fitted, and the majority of long-haul aircraft will be completed by the end of 2019.
